Helen Thomson Burney, age 81 of Birmingham, died on July 30, 2014. Helen was born in Birmingham and graduated from Phillips High School in 1951. She attended Birmingham Southern College and was employed as an executive secretary at Southern Research Institute until her marriage to Robert Burney in 1963. Helen was a member of Edgewood Presbyterian Church in Homewood.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents Helen and Harry Thomson, and brothers Harry Thomson, David Hunter Thomson and James L.M. Thomson. She is survived by her loving husband Robert A. Burney and a son Robert Thomson Burney.
Visitation will be held at Ridouts’ Valley Chapel in Homewood on Saturday, August 2nd beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Elmwood Mausoleum.
