

Hollis Heimbach de Buys, died peacefully in Birmingham, Alabama on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with her husband at her bedside. She was born October 10, 1950, in Rome, NY. Holly is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert R. de Buys, her sons Robert, Jr. (Amelia) and Bill (Paige), and grandchildren Eli, Riley, Katherine, and August. She was a graduate of UAB, a member of The Club, Ticonderoga Country Club, and a former member of Country Club of Birmingham. Holly retired from Colonial Bank, but her career of service and leadership included Muscular Dystrophy Association, The Discovery Place (now the McWane Center) , and American Institute of Banking. Holly volunteered at numerous Birmingham charitable organizations as well as in the Lake George region in New York. She was active in politics and served as an Alabama delegate to the 1980 Detroit Republican Convention.
In high school she was the Washington, DC area Fresca Girl. She taught 5th grade Sunday School at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for 20 years. Holly loved her Adirondack summer home on Lake George in New York and spoiling her grandchildren. Always a bright light inviting the newcomer, Holly’s warm, inviting smile will be missed most of all.

Memorial services will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at 11:30 on September 9th, followed by a reception at the Country Club of Birmingham at 1:00.
Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (205-879-3401) in Homewood.
