Sara Jacqueline Stevens Hall, of Birmingham, AL, passed away at the age of 102 ½, on Thursday, October 23rd, 2025. She went peacefully in her sleep, at home with her family.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Carrie Lou Randle Stevens, and her husband, O.Z. Hall, her siblings: Mildred Estes, Dora Ermma Stevens, Lucile Taylor, and Joseph Randle Stevens, as well as her grandson, Bradley Thomas Thrasher.
She is survived by her five children: Louise Hall Beard (John), Peggy Hall Thrasher (Lawayne), Polly Hall Culp (Tom), O.Z. Hall, Jr. (Patty), and Sara Hall Clemmer (Mike). 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jackie was born in Grenada, MS, on April 22nd, 1923. She was the youngest of five children. After her father passed away in 1933, her family moved to Jackson, MS, where she graduated from high school in 1941 and then attended Millsaps College.
On December 27th, 1947, she married O.Z. Hall, of Birmingham, AL. Most of her time was spent raising five children, but she still found time to enjoy the things she loved, such as gardening, knitting, painting, music, and reading. She also found time to belong to several garden clubs, the Junior League of Birmingham (a service organization), and the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), reflecting her interest in genealogy and history.
She was a member of the Independent Presbyterian Church (IPC), later joined Briarwood Presbyterian Church, and in recent years returned to IPC, attending in person until her eventual frailty required attendance via TV.
We wish to express our sincere appreciation to Hattie Rene June, who faithfully cared for Jackie for fifteen years, as well as Ruby Lee, who also devoted many years of care to Jackie. We have deep appreciation for all of the angel caregivers and hospice workers who cared for Jackie over the past three years.
The funeral service will be held at IPC on Tuesday, November 11th (Veterans Day), with Visitation at 1:00 p.m., the Service at 2:00 p.m., and a family graveside service following.
Jackie will be remembered for her loving, kind, and gracious spirit. She was the essence of a southern lady, as well as an adored mother and wife. We are thankful to know that she is in Heaven with her family and with the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the IPC Music Department or the IPC Food Ministry (https://ipcusa.org) would be appreciated.
