Jacquie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lance Britt; her parents George and Betty Gaut; her brother Rick Gaut; her sister-in-law Suzanne Gaut; and her in-laws, RC and Cora Ann Britt and Marshall McGarity.
She is survived by her devoted brother David Gaut and sister-in-law Debbie of Triangle, VA; her sister-in-law Celia Cox; her nieces and nephews Allison Dowdy, Mitchell Gaut, Britt McGarity, Blakely Oberneder, and Benjamin McGarity; and her many cousins and friends.
After attending high school in Dothan, AL, Jacquie attended Auburn University, when she earned a BFA in graphic arts. She was a long-time, valued employee of Luckie & Company for 26 years, where she lent her expertise to such clients as AT&T, South Central Bell, and Hardwick Clothes, Inc. She retired from Luckie in 2007.
Jacquie enjoyed a beautiful and unshakable love and partnership with her husband Lance, and their shared passion for travel led them on trips around the world together.
Since 1987, Jacquie had fought a courageous battle with chordoma. The grace, courage, and humor with which she faced her illness earned her the enduring love and admiration of family, friends, doctors and nurses, fellow patients, and the many people whose lives she touched along the way.
Jacquie was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church of Birmingham. She also served as a volunteer at University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, where she counseled and inspired patients who faced similar battles. And she dearly loved her pet Schnauzers, Rashi and Dusty, as well as the many who came before them.
Visitation for Jacquie will be Wednesday, July 2nd from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, AL . . Burial will take place Thursday morning at 9:30 AM at Southern Heritage Cemetery. A memorial service will be Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Independent Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the The Chordoma Foundation (chordomafoundation.org) or any humane society.
