James Roy "Jim" Barbaree

BARBAREE, JAMES ROY "JIM" James Roy "Jim" Barbaree, 62, of Birmingham, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, following a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Jim was a loving son, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. His kind heart and gentle manner endeared him to all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Langham Barbaree.

He is survived by" the love of his life", his wife, Denise N. Barbaree; his mother, Liz Barbaree of Gadsden, AL; his brother, Tim Barbaree (Sherrie) of Gadsden, AL; his mother-in-law, Bobbie M. Scalici of Homewood, AL; his brother-in-law, Sam A. Scalici, Jr. (Samantha) of Homewood, AL; sister-in-law, Maria S. Marino (Anthony) of Birmingham, AL; and the source of his immense pride and deep love-his precious nephews and nieces, Grace Marino, Anthony Marino, Sam Scalici, III, and Josephine Scalici. He is also survived by his father-in-law, James R. Nelson (Elaine) of Trussville, AL and brother-in-law, Michael L. Nelson (Julie) of Birmingham, AL.

Jim worked in retail sales for many years in Gadsden (Harris Men's Shop) and Birmingham (Budd's) then moved into a career in corporate office supply and furniture sales with Mareno Office Supply, Zac Smith, and currently with Staples.

A memorial service and celebration of Jim's life will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, (1728 Oxmoor Road in Homewood, AL.) Visitation at 10:30 a.m. with the memorial service beginning at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Childhaven, Inc. (www.childhaven.com), Children's Cancer Center (www.childrenscancercenter.org) or to St. Jude in his memory.
