
James Harvey Honeycutt, Jr. age 93 of Vestavia Hills passed away on Tuesday, February 04, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, James H and Lillian M Honeycutt and sister, Phyllis H Lawrence. A life-long resident of the Birmingham area, he was a graduate of The University of Alabama. Jim proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II and again in the Korean conflict where he received a purple heart and a bronze star. He worked at Alabama Power Company for 31 years, retiring in 1988. He is survived by Inez Wise Honeycutt, his wife of 62 years and their children and spouses: Rick Honeycutt (Peggy), Steve Honeycutt, all of Birmingham, Becky Adler of Alexandria, Virginia, and Susan Longley (Frank) of Baltimore, Maryland. In addition, Jim leaves seven grandchildren and their spouses: Heather Hurt (John), Drew Honeycutt (Kristen), Peter Honeycutt, Catherine Honeycutt, Blake Longley, Mark Longley and Sophie Adler. Jim is also survived by three great grandchildren: William and Evan Hurt and Lillian Honeycutt plus several nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood where Jim was a faithful member for 56 years. Visitation will be from 10-11a.m. at the church. Private burial will be at Alabama National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or to your favorite charity
