James Steven Mobley (Steve), 73, passed away quietly at his home in Vestavia Hills on Wednesday, July 2nd, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Robin; his two sons Michael and Chris (Babe) and his granddaughter Gray. He is preceded in death by his parents Bobbye and Earl Mobley and Jimmy Jefferson.
Steve was raised in Birmingham, went to Glen Iris Grammar School, attended Berry High School and graduated from Auburn University. He then completed studies from the University of Alabama Law School and passed the Alabama Bar Exam while clerking for Senator Richard Shelby. He left Alabama to create a highly valued land and exploration business out west in Denver, Victory Land and Exploration. This venture
took him to Montana, where he met his wife, Robin. Montana remained a second home to him for the rest of his life and was his favorite place to vacation with his family. He then returned to his hometown to begin his law practice, and eventually started a private practice. He later transitioned into his third and final career as a real estate developer, mostly in Shelby County, where he was proudly from.
Steve was a devoted family man and the gravitational center for his extended family. He maintained several deeply loyal friendships which he kept his entire life. He viewed them as brothers and sisters and considered them family. He will always be remembered for his story telling, his unique sense of humor, his love for Auburn football, his love for helping others and the love he had for his family(dogs included).
Steve will be deeply missed and remembered for generations to come.
