

James Hilton Olive, born in Bascom, Florida on January 7, 1932, passed to his heavenly home July 31, 2014. He graduated from Samford University, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as a pastor for 33 years for churches in Alabama, Kentucky, and Florida. For 18 years he led churches and institutions in raising capital funds. Afterward, he pastored on the international mission field in Romania, Austria, Tanzania, Spain, and Germany. His final years were spent traveling to the mission field. He served in numerous positions of leadership in his denomination and in the communities in which he lived. He is survived by his dear wife of 60 years Alice Jo Turner Olive, and by two daughters, Lois Dye (Jim) and Sharon Moseley (Allan), seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his brother Johnny Olive and sister Sarah Fitch. He was preceded in death by his sister Francis and two brothers Clinton and Charles. The family will receive friends at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church from 3:00 to 3:45 PM on August 3, and the funeral will follow at 4:00 PM. The family requests in lieu of flowers gifts may be made to Dawson Memorial’s mission fund.
