James Harvey Patton IV, 89, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 9, at home in Birmingham, Alabama. A man of deep and abiding faith, Jimmy is survived by his best friend and wife of 66 years, Ann Rosamond Patton. He is also survived by his son, James H. Patton V and daughter, Cissy Patton Viebranz and their spouses, Jane Patton and Curt Viebranz. Jimmy was predeceased by his son, Edward R. Patton and Edward's wife, Mary Bonemeyer Patton. Also surviving are Jimmy's sister,
Margaret Patton Burns and her husband, David. Jimmy is also survived by
twelve grandchildren, Rebecca Patton Rollins, Andy Patton, Beth Ann Patton Brown,
John Patton, Margaret Patton French, Joseph Patton, Olivia Patton Terrell, Nate Patton,
Holly Patton Amagliani, Lillie Belle Viebranz, Story Viebranz and Angus Viebranz.
Jimmy has also been blessed with 23 great grandchildren.
A native of Sweetwater, Tennessee, Jimmy graduated from Tennessee Military Institute.
Following graduation from Washington & Lee University, Jimmy served his country as an officer in the United States Navy before beginning a long and successful career with J.C. Bradford & Co. where he rose to partner in charge of the firm's Dalton, Georgia office.Jimmy and Ann were called to lead the planting of a new church, Grace Presbyterian Church, in Dalton. After moving to Birmingham, he was a faithful congregant of Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Ridout's Valley Chapel,
1800 Oxmoor Road in Homewood beginning at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service. A celebration of his life will also be held in Sweetwater, Tennessee, at a later date.
