
WALL, JAMES THOMAS of Mountain Brook, AL passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on April 9, 1931. His parents were Virgil Matthews Wall and Lillian Dale Lye. He was a graduate of Ramsey High School and graduated from Auburn University in 1956 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy as a fighter pilot in Fighter Squadron VF192 aboard the USS Oriskany and later in the Naval Reserves. He retired as president of O’Neal Steel in 1991 and served on various committees of the Steel Service Center Institute and was director of the National Association of Aluminum Distributors. He was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and was on the Foundation Board. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and Birmingham Country Club. Jim is survived by his wife Sarah Williams Challis of 57 years, his son James Thomas Wall, Jr., (Margaret), his daughter Challis Wall Gamble, his grandchildren Margaret Wall Rader (Walton), James Thomas Wall, III, Mark Hunter Gamble, Jr., David Anderson Gamble and Sarah Challis Gamble, and sister Joan Wall Hollingsworth (Carey). Services will be held at Independent Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, December 31 at 2:00 with visitation following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Independent Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity.
