
Jane Williamson Nelson passed away on October 12, 2022. She was born April 15, 1952 in Birmingham, Alabama to Millard Lamar Williamson, Sr. and Anne Smith Williamson. Jane is predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, Dr. Thomas Reagan Nelson, Sr., her children, Sara Anne Nelson Thomas (Cary) and Thomas Reagan Nelson, Jr. (Katie), and grandchildren, Paul Livingston Nelson, William Sanford Thomas, Eleanor Gresham Nelson, and Anne Katherine Thomas, all of Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by her siblings, Millard Lamar Williamson, Jr. (Dee Dee) of Birmingham, AL, Mary Anne Williamson Brodie (Steve) of Wichita, Kansas, and Edward Neal Williamson (Fio) of Atlanta, Georgia, brother-in-law, Dr. George Augustus Nelson III (Mary Jane) as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jane attended Comer Elementary School, where she met Thomas, a boy who lived down the street who would become the love of her life and future husband. She graduated from Woodlawn High School before attending the University of Alabama and completing her degree in physical therapy from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Jane worked for over a decade as a physical therapist at Baptist Montclair Hospital, directing the division for most of her tenure. Following the birth of her second child, Jane focused her efforts on her family. She provided administrative support to her husband’s dentistry practice and was active at each level of her children’s education, chairing numerous committees and serving as PTA presidents at the elementary and junior high schools.
Jane loved to travel and explore new places, the cruise ship being her preferred mode of transport. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and close friends at her vacation homes in Destin, Florida and more recently at Lay Lake. Jane will be remembered most for her love of family, her loyalty, and her wisdom.
Family and friends are welcome at a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Mountain Brook City Schools Foundation or the Birmingham Zoo.
