

She was born in Birmingham, AL on April 29, 1929, attended public schools in Birmingham, until 1946 when she entered the University of Alabama.
In 1950, she received a BS degree in Home Economics from the University and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, where she was president for 2 consecutive years during her junior and senior year. Later, their special AXO lunch bunch met every Thursday for over sixty years. She married the love of her life and best friend, Maxwell Clay Mashburn, to whom she was married for 46 years. After Max attended dental school and started his practice, she served as his receptionist and bookkeeper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Max Mashburn; her mother and father, Murdus Holmes and RC Parker; and her sister, Jo Parker Gibson and her husband Mack.
She is survived by her two special sons and their families:
Dr. Jay Parker Mashburn (Vicky) and their daughters Sabrina and Emily of Shreveport, LA; and Michael (Mike) Clay Mashburn Sr. (Debbie) and their children Michael Jr., Lucy Mashburn Young (Patrick), and Abigail Parker of Birmingham. She is also survived by a special niece, Pam Gibson Swiatek (Mark).
For more than 50 years, Janie was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Homewood, AL. She joined on September 19, 1954. During her time as a member, she served in various volunteer positions, was active in Bible study classes, participated in the Friendship Sunday School class, and served on the Administrative Board of the Church.
A memorial service will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Janie's name to Trinity United Methodist Church, or a favorite charity.
