Jean Branch Porter

With her salvation secured, Jean Branch Porter, age 86, passed away surrounded by her loving Family on March 15, 2022. The daughter of J.O. Branch, Sr. and Robbie Lucille Branch, Jean was a proud graduate of Ensley High School, Birmingham-Southern College, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she was a magna cum laude graduate in receiving her Master’s degree in counseling. However, Jean will be remembered most of all as a loving Mom and Mimi – she would have it no other way, and her boys would agree. She never missed a ball game, school event, or a milestone. For those of you that knew Mom, you already know that she was an animal lover - you rarely saw her without at least one of her pups nearby. Known for her classic beauty and beautiful singing voice, Mom enjoyed life in the way that she embraced its victories and stood up to its challenges. She didn’t do this alone, and she would tell you that. Her host of Family and Friends were always there. Probably none more than her loving Sister, Judy Downs, who was and will always be a source of encouragement and inspiration. You have to look no further than those two for the perfect example of Sisterly love, and we are so grateful. Mom’s Family would also like to acknowledge the love and generosity of the Encompass Hospice team as they helped us ensure Mom’s comfort and care. In addition, there are some very special Ladies that went through this journey with Mom. Charity, Deborah, and Lashelle, there are no words to express our gratitude and appreciation. You not only took care of Mom, you ministered to her on every level and your devotion was evident.

Mom, thank you so much for all that you did for us. Thank you for loving us unconditionally. Thank you for the Band-Aids, delicious meals, and a shoulder to cry on. Thank you for your bravery, courage, and grace. Most of all, thank you for blessing us with a legacy of Love that will grow with every passing day. You were, and always will be, our Mom.

There will be a visitation and a Celebration of Life on March 19, 2022 at Christ the King Anglican Church located at 2250 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Hoover, Alabama 35226. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with a service to follow. In lieu of flowers Mom would appreciate a memorial contributions to The Greater Birmingham Humane Society.
