Jeanette Esslinger Marstrander of Birmingham, Alabama, died April 8, 2021, at the age of 94. She was born in Gurley, Alabama on July 17, 1926, to James Campbell Esslinger and Maude Haislip Esslinger.
Mrs. Marstrander graduated from Madison County High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and a Master of Education degree from the University of Montevallo. and continued graduate studies at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She also complete the paralegal studies program at Samford University. Her years of employment were with Southern Research Institute, Jefferson County Board of Education, and Dominick, Fletcher, Yielding, Law Firm. She served on the Alumni Executive Board at the University of Montevallo and was a long time member of Cahaba Heights United Methodist Church. There she served as a trustee, financial secretary, a member of the church council, and on various other lay committees.
Mrs. Marstrander lived in the Cahaba Heights community of Vestavia Hills, Alabama for 55 years and took part in various civic activities there. She served on the original committee to establish the school there as one of the first Community Schools in Jefferson County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jan H. Marstrander, her parents, and her brothers Glenn H. Esslinger, James C. Esslinger, and her sister Ellie E. Hounsel. Family survivors include her beloved son, Dr. Jon Rolf Marstrander, three nieces, two nephews, and one great niece.
Burial with grave side services will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at 2:00pm in the cemetery of Gurley, Alabama, at the Esslinger family plot.
