Jo Medlin Ballard, age 97, of Mountain Brook died Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Jo was a graduate of Howard College where she later taught math. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi and founded a chapter at Northwestern University. She was a founding member of Charity League and also a member of Women’s Committee of 100, Speech Arts, and the Springbrook Garden Club. A member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church for over 60 years, Jo was president of the WMU and started the XYZ Club for seniors. Jo worked alongside her husband in his dentistry practice in Woodlawn where she served as President of the Woodlawn Business Association and was an advocate for the restoration and preservation of the community. All those that knew her will miss her meticulously hand written notes that she took such care in crafting with the perfect sentiment. Jo was also renowned for hosting the consummate dinner party where she enjoyed nothing better than a table filled with family and friends sharing stories and unending laughter. She is predeceased by her husband Dr. Robert Henry Ballard and is survived by her son, Robert Henry Ballard, Jr.; daughter, Melissa Ballard Jones; daughter in law, Sandra Bolen Ballard; grandchildren, Robert Henry Ballard, III; William Payton Ballard; Vivian Carlisle Ballard; Ballard Alexander Jones; and Hayden Elizabeth Jones.
The family wishes to express appreciation to her church, her care givers, Hope Hospice and her McElwain Baptist gym group for all of their love and support. Memorial service will held in the sanctuary of Mountain Brook Baptist Church on Monday September 14th at 11am.
