

Joanna was born in Akron, Ohio, and lived a rich and fulfilling life filled with love and devotion to her family and friends. She attended Texas Woman's University and went on to graduate from the University of Alabama, where she pledged Alpha Chi Omega and became a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron, the National Honor Society in Home Economics.
Throughout her life, Joanna was a dedicated and active member of her community. She served as a Girl Scout leader, was the president of the Rocks and Rills Garden Club, and held positions on the boards of the Shades Valley YMCA, the Women's Auxiliary of the Birmingham Bar Association, and the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. She was also a lifelong member of Canterbury United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women and the John Wesley Sunday School Class.
Joanna was known for her beautiful smile and quick wit, which endeared her to all who knew her. She devoted her life to caring for her loving husband, Foster "Buck" Etheredge, and their three children, Robert Foster Etheredge Jr., Nancy Etheredge Ryszkiewicz, and the late Nell Carson Etheredge. She also cared for two live-in grandfathers. She had a never-ending sense of adventure and loved traveling the world with friends and family. Joanna cherished the rich, lifelong friendships she made through her sorority sisters, church community, supper club, and the Country Club of Birmingham, where she was a member of the Ladies Golf Association.
Joanna was preceded in death by her husband Foster "Buck" Etheredge and daughter Nell Carson Etheredge. She is survived by her son Robert Foster Etheredge Jr., and his wife Ann Gresham Etheredge, her daughter Nancy Etheredge Ryszkiewicz and her husband Edward Joseph Ryszkiewicz Jr.

Joanna will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on through the love and kindness she spread throughout her life.
A visitation for Joanna will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Canterbury Methodist Church, 350 Overbrook Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35213, followed by a memorial service at 2:30 PM.
