

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Walter Attaway, Sr. and Gladys Lindsey Attaway; by his son, Stephen W. Attaway, Ph.D.; by his brother, Donald W. Attaway; his sister, Margie A. Knight; and by his niece, Janet K. Bailey. He is survived by his daughter, Myrna Attaway; former wife, Betty Joyce Basden; and daughter in law, Nancy Attaway. He is also survived by 6 nieces and nephews, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A construction superintendent for Brasfield and Gorrie Construction Company for 39 years, John was a member of the National Speleological Society and the Southeastern Cave Conservancy. He received numerous awards from the National Speleological Society and donated a cave to preserve each organization.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation Thursday evening, the 11th of May, from five o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Funeral services for Mr. Attaway will be conducted on Friday, the 12th of May, beginning at one o'clock in the afternoon. Friends are also invited to visit the day of the service from eleven o'clock in the morning until time of service. Immediately following the service, burial will be held in Bold Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery located on Cahaba Valley Road.
