John Newton Babb Jr.

John was a graduate of West End High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal. He was a graduate of Howard College. John worked for U.S. Steel as a traffic engineer for many years until his retirement in 1987.

John was a long time faithful member of Lakeside Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and singing in the choir.

John was preceded in death by his sister, Anita Eaves, and his parents, John N. Babb, Sr., and Estes Marlar Babb. John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wyvonne; two daughters, Kim (Chuck) Watson, and Beth Babb. Two grandchildren, Allison Watson and Jacob Babb. His sister, Martha Nell Taylor, and many loving nieces and nephews, and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Babb will be held Monday, June 3, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. Ridouts Valley Chapel, Homewood. Visitation will be held at 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. at Valley Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Crest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made in Mr. Babb’s name to Lakeside Baptist Church.
