John Miles Benton Jr.

John Miles (Jack) Benton, Jr. passed away on May 28, 2016. He was a long time resident of Birmingham after growing up in Mobile, where he attended UMS Military School. He attended Auburn University graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Jack served in the U.S. Army for 16 years, active and reserve, graduating from U. S. Armor School earning a Distinguished Military Grad designation. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, the Country Club of Birmingham, the Auburn Alumni Association, and was the Auburn Rifleman Platoon leader. Jack loved his family deeply and was always true and loyal to his friends with a sidebar of humor for all. Mr. Benton was preceded in death by his parents John Miles Benton, Sr. and Martha Fearn Benton. He is survived by his wife Maxine Gray Benton; his children John Miles Benton, III, Porter Roberts Benton and Amory Benton Reeves; and his grandchildren John Miles Benton, IV, Mason Devore Benton, Frank Reeves, and Mary Katherine Reeves Benton. He is also survived by Terry Gray, David Gray, Russell Gray and Toni Johnson and their families. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 1 at Elmwood Cemetery at 3:00 pm with a visitation / celebration at the Country Club of Birmingham immediately following. Memorials to be made to Alabama Children's Hospital Foundation.
