John James Hooten, age 101 of Birmingham, passed away Tuesday, March 19th. Born in 1917, one of ten children, a member of the “greatest generation” he grew up in Joppa, AL during the depression. A combat veteran of WWII and the Korean War, he served his country on active duty in the USAF for 24 years. A longtime member of Huffman Baptist Church , he is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie F and Vera V (Waldrop) Hooten, and one brother and seven sisters. He is survived by his wife, Bette D Hooten, son J Michael Hooten (Sarah), daughter Karen H Wood (Mark), brother Clyde Hooten, two grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. Viewing will be Friday March 22nd at 100PM, with services to follow at 200PM, at Corinth East Baptist Church in Joppa, AL.
