John David Maske, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 15, 2022. He was born at St. Vincent’s Hospital on September 19, 1961, to Doris Estelle Maske and Charles Milton Maske.
John attended John Carroll Catholic High School and UAB and then worked at BellSouth for over 20 years. He worked in many different departments and held many managerial positions, but he ultimately found his true calling when he opened Java & Jams, a small coffee shop, in downtown Birmingham. His shop quickly became a showroom for local musicians and artists and a gathering place for many friends. He truly loved good coffee and music.
He loved his family, his friends and life in general. Never one to take anything too seriously, he valued the good times.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood, Alabama for a celebration of John’s life. A memorial presentation will begin at 3:00 pm.
John loved honeybees and some of his fondest childhood memories were watching his father work his hives. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Bee Conservancy (www.thebeeconservancy.org) to help ‘Save the Bees!”.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his dear sister Janice Elaine Maske. He is survived by his loving wife, Alisa Herring Maske and loving daughter, Katy Lyn Maske (soon to be son-in-law Chris Athnos); sister Judy Maske; brother Sam Edward Maske (wife Marada Maske); niece Rene Maske Leader (husband Robert Leader, son Harrison); nephew Chuck Maske (wife Terrie Maske, sons Daniel, Matthew, and Dylan) as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and a multitude of friends that will all miss him dearly.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ridoutsvalleychapel.com.
