John D Sharbutt

John Daniel Sharbutt, age 80, of Helena, Alabama passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025. John was a native of Leeds, Alabama, and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a man of deep and abiding faith. John enjoyed sailing and scuba diving, and was a long-time member of the Birmingham Sailing Club. He was also an avid gardener. He loved working with his hands and was a member of The Alabama Woodworkers Guild. John had many interests and had a gift for sharing his knowledge with others. He retired from Lehigh Cement Company in Leeds, Alabama. His love for family was foremost in his life.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bertha Ray Sharbutt. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy Carlisle Sharbutt; daughters: Christian Glaze (Michael) and Jennifer Hoffmann (Oliver); grandchildren: Mallory Becker, John Michael Becker, Lux Greene, Olivia Glaze, Isabelle Hoffmann and Jack Hoffmann; his sister Evelyn Jo Bishop and by many extended family members and friends.

The family will host a celebration of life for John on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 beginning at 10:00 AM at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209. Burial will follow the celebration at 1:15 pm at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy. 119, Montevallo, AL 35115.
