Josefina Bonich Navia died peacefully at her home on Monday morning, October 21, after 96 years of life. She is predeceased by her husband, Juan M., and daughter Ana M. (late husband Roger Shilling). She is survived by daughter Beatriz A. of Birmingham, AL, sons Juan L. (Julie Senecoff) of Doylestown, and Carlos A. Josefina worked for many years at nurturing her husband and their family as a homemaker and as a bilingual administrative assistant at Wellesley College in Massachusetts and at Read Steel Products in Birmingham. She was an avid reader who enjoyed works about history, politics and art. Josefina and Juan were active members of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover for many years, and in the Serra Club in support of priestly vocations. Juan and Josefina were invested as Knight and Dame of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher in 2003.
Josefina was in life, and will continue to be in memory, a powerful personal, cultural and spiritual influence on her family. We thank the wonderful group of ladies that helped to take care of our mother in her final months of her life. They cared for her body, mind and spirit by tending to not only her daily needs, but also by praying with and for her. We would also like to thank the nurses from New Beacon Hospice that continually showed love, compassion and professionalism in their care.
A Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 29th at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. Visitation will follow at 10:30 AM, and Funeral Mass celebrated at 11:00 AM. A private interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Josefina’s memory to:
