Joe was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 8, 1973, to Charles E. and Christine R. Grelier.
He was a 1993 graduate of Mountain Brook High school. After playing football at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga for two years, he transferred to Auburn University where he graduated in 1998 with a BS degree in accounting and later obtained his CPA. Joe landed his first job with Altec Capital in 1999 as a staff accountant which kickstarted a 20-year commercial real estate accounting and management career. He ultimately was CFO and Principal in his family-owned companies Chase Group Partners, NAI Chase Commercial Real Estate and RCP Companies. The last few years, Joe preferred to work from home where he subsequently formed AIM Outsource LLC, a transaction advisory and management consulting firm, as well as a real estate development firm. Joe was a member of the Alabama Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs.
In 1997, Joe met the love of his life, Melissa Abrams, in Huntsville, Alabama. They were married in 1999 and were lifelong partners for more than 22 years. Joe is survived by his grandfather, Joseph Anthony Rumore; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Grelier, Sr., his devoted wife Melissa; two children, Joseph Anthony, 19 and Alexis Lee 17; as well as his beloved siblings, large extended family and many close friends.
Joe will be remembered for his integrity, his keen business savvy, and ability to see the “big picture” and articulate his thoughts accordingly. He had an unsurpassed sense of humor, sharp wit, and contagious smile. Joe held a deep spirituality that transcended into his passion as an artist and musician. He would sketch and paint at any hour of the day or night, and continued this passion up until his final few days on this earth. His creations were such delightful gifts to his family and friends. An accomplished drummer, over the years Joe enjoyed playing in numerous bands in Huntsville, Alabama, including Cove Methodist Church Worship Team, The Net Church, The Stevo Show, and Step Heavy Huntsville. He taught drum lessons through Lincoln Village Ministry, as Joe believed every child should have the opportunity to learn music. He truly gave to others through his many talents and left a personal witness that will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 4-6 pm at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 5514 Double Oak Lane Birmingham, Alabama. The funeral mass will begin at 6 pm.
