

Joe was born September 4, 1967, to Jan Bailey Payne and Ed Payne. He attended Richardson High School in Dallas, Texas, where he was part of the drumline, and he graduated from Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, AL in 1986. Joe attended Livingston University and graduated from Columbia Southern. Many remember him as Babe Ruff, mascot of the Birmingham Barons for thirteen years. Additionally, Joe spent much of his career in the automotive industry, most recently as a Tool Controller at MBUSI in Vance, Alabama. He loved spending time riding his motorcycles and watching sports, especially Alabama football and baseball, with friends and family. Joe touched many people and brought joy into their lives with his kindness and sense of humor. He was a longtime member of Hunter Street Baptist Church and was part of the shuttle ministry there.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edmund E. Payne, and brother, Michael. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Tiffany, his daughter, Bailey Ann, his mother, Jan, his nephews Marc (Lily) and Will (Victoria), and many cousins and friends around the world.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 2, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Hunter Street Baptist Church, 2600 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Al. The family will receive friends in the chapel from
10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M.
