Joseph John Szafran

Joseph John Szafran passed away at home surrounded by his family on March 7, 2019. Joseph was born and raised in Trenton, NJ before serving in the United States Navy where he was trained as a boiler repairman. He then went to school to become an HVAC systems specialist where he practiced this trade for almost 40 years and was employed by Southern Research. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Corinne Augelli-Szafran and children, Holly, Amy and Dylan. Other surviving family members are his mother, Zenobia Szafran, sisters Diane Trimble (Dick), Reggie James, brothers John Szafran (Melissa) and Steven Szafran (Maryann) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Jan Szafran. Joseph was a devout husband and father who always put his family first. He enjoyed the outdoors, cooking and spending time with his family. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 7-9 pm at Ridout’s Valley Chapel, Homewood, AL. The funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1728 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 12 noon with visitation at the church before Mass from 11am – 12 pm. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, AL.
