Joy McLeod Dorn, 69 of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on November 28, 2022. Our family is heartbroken but we have peace knowing she is in the arms of Jesus now. She was born in Jefferson County, Alabama on September 4th, 1953. Joy graduated from Berry High School and received a Bachelors degree from the University of Alabama. She was married to Phil Dorn on October 7th, 1979. Joy worked in customer service for 18 years at Alabama Power. She had a passion for serving others and loved people deeply. Her love for dogs and people lead her to serve with Hand-in-Paw Pet Therapy for many years. She served with Church of the Highlands Prison Ministry. She was actively serving at the firehouse shelter and was always looking for ways to help others. She lived for her family and her granddaughters were her heartbeat.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Esmé Stewart McLeod and her father, Grover S. McLeod.
She was survived by her husband of 43 years, Phil Dorn; son Ran Dorn; son Stewart Dorn; daughter Betsy Loree (Dan); grandchildren Esmé and Everleigh; brother Malcolm McLeod (Jul); sister Susan Mcclough (Don); sister Peggy Honeycutt (Rick); nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be Friday, December 2, 2022 at 10 am at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood with a celebration of life service immediately following at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Firehouse Ministries in Birmingham, Alabama.
