Joyce Ann Page devoted wife and mother passed away on March 17, 2022. She was born on March 1, 1943 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Howard and Josephine. Joyce and John Page wed in July 1962 and were happily married for over 56 years. Joyce was a devoted mother to her two daughters - Teresa and Kimberly. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, John, her daughter, Teresa, her parents, and her brothers, Howard and Thomas. In addition to her daughter, Kimberly, Joyce is survived by her two grandchildren, Megan and Cheyenne, four great-grandchildren, Max, Charly, Eloise, and Archie, her sister, Sue and brother, William.
Joyce grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from Waukesha High School. After marrying John, their journey together involved moves to Maryland, Indiana, Ohio, New Mexico and finally Birmingham, Alabama where they lived for over 30 years. Joyce and John were truly partners in life and enjoyed spending time together travelling, reading, gardening, and playing Pac-Man on their side-by-side desktop computers which as time passed and technology evolved, morphed into playing Spider Solitaire on their iPads side-by-side on the sofa. They also helped each other grow by introducing one another to new interests. Joyce took classes with John to foster his passion for photography and computers while John realized early on that if he wanted to keep up with Joyce, he needed to learn how to play bridge. Her partner in life soon became her favorite partner at the bridge table.
Joyce took after her mother and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and baking. Over the years she devoted countless hours and took great joy in making handmade gifts for family and friends. Joyce also inherited her mother’s love of music. Joyce learned piano from her mother and would later teach both of her daughters to play as well.
Joyce’s love for playing bridge served as a gateway for meeting new people. After moving to Birmingham, Joyce joined Newcomer’s and later Encore. Over the course of hundreds – maybe thousands – of hands of bridge, Joyce cultivated treasured friendships with wonderful individuals who greatly enriched her life. She also became a devoted member of Chapter B of P.E.O. and became part of a sisterhood of an incredible and inspiring group of women.
Joyce will be remembered for her kindness and light. She was someone who loved bringing people together to enjoy one another’s company and fellowship – and maybe play a little bridge along the way.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Homewood with a funeral mass to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the P.E.O. Foundation at 7096 North Highfield Dr., Birmingham, Alabama 35242.
