Julia Hagler Crawford, 77, of Birmingham, passed away peacefully on April 19 at Compassus Hospice following complications from a stroke. She was surrounded by her loving husband of 58 years, Thomas Crawford, Jr., her daughters, Molly Crawford Ream and Meg Crawford Brooks, both of Atlanta, and her beloved caregiver, Juequise Fitzgerald of Birmingham. Julia was a graduate of Ramsay High School and attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She completed her education at Georgia State University in Atlanta earning a master's degree in Community Counseling. After the family moved to San Antonio, she completed advanced training in Gestalt Therapy and founded the Gestalt Institute of San Antonio and spent many years in private practice focusing on marriage and family issues. Julia published a book, Walk into Awareness: A Gestalt Approach to Growth, in 1985 which was reprinted in 2017. Julia loved to spend time with her family at the beach and travelling the world with her husband. She could also be found on the golf course or at the bridge table where she enjoyed the companionship of many friends. Along with her husband and daughters, Julia is survived by her wonderful grandchildren, Morgan Ream Bridges (Jenny), Elliott Ream (Kristin), Michael Ream, Davis Brooks, and Crawford Brooks (Lindsay), as well as her adorable great-grandchildren Noah and Piper Bridges, and Joseph Ream. She is also survived by her brother John P. Hagler, Jr. (Sharon), and many nieces and nephews. The service to celebrate her life will be held at the chapel at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2 Xavier Circle, at 1:00 on Tuesday, April . The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service and will host a reception for family and friends in the church Parish Hall immediately following the service.
