
Julien Massey Relfe, Jr., age 75, passed away on March 14, 2016. He was a long time resident of Birmingham where he practiced law for many years. Mr. Relfe graduated from the University of Alabama and Cumberland Law School, Samford University. As a member of the Birmingham Bar and Alabama Bar Associations, he served on numerous committees over the years. He also served as an appointed judge for the 10th Judicial Circuit on numerous occasions.
Mr. Relfe was an active member of First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, teaching church school and was a member of the Administrative Board. He enjoyed driving the church bus on Sunday for members needing a ride to services and serving as an usher. He became a member All Saints Episcopal Church in 2006 and was active in many activities there.
Lieutenant Colonel Relfe was retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was the Commander of the 117th Communications Flight, Alabama Air National Guard (1968-1982). While on active duty with the Air Force he was stationed at bases in Kansas City, Missouri; Izmir, Turkey and Wiesbaden, Germany.
Mr. Relfe was preceded in death by his parents Julien M. Relfe and Evelyn P. Relfe; brother C. Perry Relfe and his daughter Julie Ann Relfe. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Margaret Relfe; former wife, Ann V. Relfe; sister, Margaret R. Copeland and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church on Saturday, March 19 at 11:00. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
