

KATHERINE AMELIA CARTER STEPHENS passed away January 5, 2015. She was born in Birmingham on September 9, 1920 to the late Clarence G. and Mamie Burgess Carter. She was a graduate of Woodlawn High School. She married Clarence Earl Stephens in 1941 and had many happy years with him until his death in 1999. Katherine first attended Woodlawn United Methodist Church but she and Earl joined Canterbury United Methodist in 1950. Katherine was a member of the Fred Kelly Sunday School Class and was a life member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Canterbury Needlepoint Guild and the Knit Wits. Katherine was a life member of the St. Vincent’s Hospital auxiliary, a member of the Circle Garden Club, The Club, and the Auburn University Samford Society. In addition to her parents and husband, Katherine was predeceased by her son, David Robert Stephens, and by her brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Ann Carter.
Survivors include daughter, Nancy Stephens Morrison, granddaughters Shannon Young (Will) and Paige Morrison, grandson Jordan Morrison, great-granddaughters Ellen and Exie Young, several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank caregivers Sylvia Leonard and Monica Boyd for their loving dedication during the past year. Funeral service will be Friday, January 9th at 11:00 a.m. in the Canterbury United Methodist Chapel. The family will receive friends in the church Parlor one hour prior to the service. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery will immediately follow the church service. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Children’s Home in Selma, Alabama; Canterbury United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice.
