

The family of Kenneth Owen Kirk, Sr. would like to announce his glorious homecoming September 15, 2014. Ken was a native of Homewood, AL, where he lived most of his 86 years. His life was one of service to his country and his family. He served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Homewood Chapter. He married Lucy Sue Pogue Kirk in 1952. She was the first to welcome him through the gates of heaven. Ken is survived by three children: Mary Sue Kirk Bolden (Stanley Bolden); Anne Marie Kirk Hentz (Bob Hentz); and Kenneth Owen Kirk, Jr. (Katie Wise Kirk); and sister, Katharine Kirk. Ken and Sue enjoyed six grandchildren: Caroline Bolden McCormic, Susan Hentz, Patrick Hentz, Elizabeth Hentz, James Kirk and David Kirk. During his family years Ken participated in family community organizations such as YMCA Indian Scouts, Homewood Joy League Baseball coach, and Boy Scouts of America. Ken served as Cub Scout Pack Master from Trinity United Methodist Church, Pack 397. His professional contributions included design engineer for Redstone Arsenal Space Program in the 1950's followed by design engineering for Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham. He completed his engineering career after 30 years' service as Chief Engineer for Alabama Power's Wilsonville Steamplant. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Methodist Church. Visitation will follow in the Parlor at Trinity. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association .
