

Lamar Aldridge Newton, 66, went to be with his heavenly father on December 27, 2019. He was born in Fort Benning, GA, December 8, 1953. He was a graduate of Mt. Brook High School, the University of Alabama with a Business degree, and received Masters degrees at the University of Alabama Birmingham in Business Administration and Healthcare Administration. Known for his passion for music, playing the guitar, his irreverent sense of humor and dry wit, Lamar was a rebel with a cause. A living example of how to have fun in sobriety, Lamar is remembered for his uncanny ability to connect to nearly everyone. A founding member of Talbott Recovery Campus Alumni Group, he devoted himself to helping others, volunteering at TRC assisting patients and their families, spreading the light and joy he found in recovery and sharing his personal story that helped so many. He was preceded in death by his father, Alexander Worthy Newton and grandson, Hayes Aldridge Collins. He is survived by his wife, Martha Faricy Newton ; his daughter, Kathryn Newton Collins; his son, Alex (Jesse) Worthy Newton II, his stepchildren Charles Ronald Gill III and Faricy Caroline Sandberg and 5 grandchildren, Charles Belton Collins II, Marion Fields Collins, Kathryn Alexander Collins, Knox Worthy Newton and Nora Rae Newton. He is also survived by his mother Mrs. Alexander (Sue Aldridge) Worthy Newton, 2 sisters, Kelly (Clark) Newton Hammond, Jane Worthy Newton and his brother Dr. Rob (Dee Dee) J. Newton. A memorial service will be held at Independent Presbyterian Church on Thursday, January 2nd at 11:00 am with a visiting immediately following in the parlor.
