Lauren attended Cherokee Bend Elementary School, Highlands School, The Altamont School, Hollins University, and UAB. Lauren was a talented creative writer and won several awards for her poems and short stories. She was blessed with an infectious positive attitude and could light up a room with her smile and beloved zaniness. No matter what trials and tribulations life handed her, she put all of her energy into making the best out of every situation. Lauren loved fiercely and was a loyal and dedicated friend. This love and dedication translated to her furry friends as well and she opened her home to all sorts of animals.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lisle Nabell and her team at UAB, the doctors at MD Anderson, and the incredible nurses in the UAB BMT ICU and Palliative Care Center.
She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents William Price Garth, Sr. and Clara Louise Garth, maternal grandparents Edson McCabe and Mary Poem McCabe, aunt Gayle Louise Garth and cousin Wesley Symmes McCabe. She is survived by her parents, her brother Jeff (Julie), and extended family, her cat Tina Turner, and a host of close friends, including special friends “The Shinnin” (Angel Wood Beery, Arthur Crenshaw, Margaret Hiden, Marion McGahey Marx, Lauren Whiteside Mestre, and Margaret Whiteside), and Brooke Evins McLeod.
A celebration of life will be held at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood on Friday February 16th from 1-3pm with burial in Gulfport, Mississippi. Lauren's wish is for everyone to dress colorfully.
In lieu of flowers, donations can made to Hand in Paw, the Greater Birmingham Humane Society,
