

Mrs. Laurie Hudgens Howle, age 91 of Mountain Brook died August 2nd, 2011. Born August 27, 1919, in Crenshaw County, Alabama, she was the daughter of Joseph Leon Hudgens and Jewel Tranum Hudgens. Laurie was a longtime member of Birmingham Country Club and Canterbury United Methodist Church, as well as one of the founders of the Canterbury Garden Club. She loved to travel and was able to see a great deal of the world.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mardis W. Howle, Sr., her sister, Louise H. McQuaid, and her stepson, Mardis W. Howle, Jr. She is survived by her stepchildren, Ann Howle Darnell (Dr. Robert), Alan Jackson Howle (Gail), her nephew, Donald S. McQuaid (Roswitha), her grandchildren, Christy H. Kyser (Kyle, Jr.), Stratton H. Brock (Heather), William G. Brock, Taylor A. Howle, Charles W. Howle, the late Richard A. Howle, five great-grandchildren, and two grand-nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Canterbury United Methodist Church Thursday, August 4th at 2:00 P.M. followed by a gathering of family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Parkinson’s Foundation or Canterbury United Methodist Church.
