

Mr. Lawrence Shelton Hawsey, 79, of Vestavia Hills left his earthly home on Saturday, November 5, 2016. Shelton was born and raised on a farm outside of Evergreen Alabama by his aunt and uncle, Claude and Edna Brooks, following a tragic accident that took his father’s life. Following graduation from Lyeffion High, Shelton attended Auburn University where he earned a degree in Agriculture Education in 1959. His first job was teaching vocational agriculture in Apopka, Florida where he met his wife of 53 years. After teaching for a few years, he was hired by the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service where he served as an Extension Farm agent in Lee County, a District Agent in Dallas County, and an Extension Leader in Auburn-the position he remained in until his retirement in 1995.
Shelton was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Virginia A. Hawsey, daughter Michelle Parks (Keith Parks) of Hueytown, AL. son Kenny Hawsey (Kelli Frost Hawsey) of Houston, TX., and by four grandchildren: Rebekah Parks of Atlanta, GA., Kayla Hawsey, Bailey Hawsey and Brandon Hawsey all of Houston, TX. Shelton’s only remaining sibling is Linda Scott of Monroeville, AL.
Visitation will be Friday, November 11 at 10:00 am followed by funeral service at 11:00 at Liberty Crossings Methodist Church in Liberty Park where Shelton was a member for several years. Graveside will be at 3:30 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Auburn, AL. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to one of the following organizations: 4-H Club Foundation, Inc., American Heart Association, or Liberty Crossings Methodist Church building fund.
