After a three-year battle with cancer, Lawton Price Miller went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Lawton was born on June 22, 1962, in Birmingham, Alabama, attending Brookwood Forest Elementary School and then graduated from Briarwood Christian School in 1980. He was a proud 1984 graduate of the University of Alabama, where he earned a degree in public relations and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. After graduation, he worked briefly for his late father, Gordon Wayne Miller, Sr., at Miller Sales Company. In 1993, he and his late brother, Gordon Wayne Miller, Jr., started Miller Valve & Controls, which they grew into a leading valve and actuation distributor and where Lawton spent the remainder of his career.
In 2017, Lawton met Brenda Justice Miller – the love of his life and who he described as a “direct gift from God” – and the two were married on June 16, 2018. Lawton’s three daughters – Caitlin Miller Foley, Mary Claire Miller Cox, and Margaret Morgan Miller – were his pride and joy, and one of his greatest legacies will be the bond that he cultivated among them.
Lawton was a member of Mountain Brook Community Church and was eager to share his testimony about his faith in Christ. One of his favorite verses was Matthew 18:12, which reminds us that God’s faithful pursuit of our hearts is like a man who will leave ninety-nine sheep to search for one that is lost. Lawton had an incredible ability to build lasting relationships, and he exemplified the words in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 to “encourage one another and build each other up.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon, and brother, Wayne. He is survived by his wife, Brenda; children, Caitlin (Mark), Mary Claire (Walker), and Maggie; stepson, James Daniel Justice II (Madison); grandchildren, Mary Lawton Foley and Emma Margaret Foley; mother, Marcia Wilkins Miller; brother, Stuart Beauregard Miller (Tara); nephews, Lawton Terrell Miller and Nicholas Duke Miller; and nieces, Sally Anne Miller and Phoebe Marie Miller.
A visitation will be held at Mountain Brook Community Church on Saturday, January 22, at 12:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to China Outreach Ministries for the ministry of Beau Miller or to Mountain Brook Community Church.
