

Lenora (Nona) McGarity, age 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 4, 2020. She was born on April 9, 1931, to parents, Theodore Marshall and Nettie Chapman Thaggard. She attended Auburn University where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. She raised her family in Homewood, Alabama and was a faithful member of All Saints Episcopal Church for over 50 years. She served on the Altar Guild for many years and was known to return to the church many Sunday afternoons to straighten the hymnals and prayer books. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She always kept Jesus at the center of her life even during the most difficult times. She was predeceased by sons, William Cody McGarity and Marshall Edmund McGarity. She is survived by children, Charles Alan McGarity, Michael Laird McGarity (Lavinia), and Nancy McGarity Lawrence (Randall), daughter-in-law, Celia McGarity Cox (Phlip), grandchildren, Michael McGarity, Mary Haley Plummer (Garrett), Kristen Milling (Chris), Hallie Weaver (Leighton), Caroline Lawrence, Britt McGarity (Amy), Blakely Oberneder (Matt), and Benjamin McGarity (Caroline), Great-grandchildren, Carter Plummer, Cece and Holland Milling, and Charlotte and Reid Oberneder. A special thank you to the nurses at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Dr. Noah Fitzpatrick for his many years of compassionate care. There will be a private service for the family. Memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church.
