

Leon Roscoe Gorman, Jr. 91, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Leon was born August 11,1934, in Birmingham. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1952 and from Auburn University in 1956. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Leon was a longtime member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church where he often taught adult Sunday School classes. He started and successfully ran numerous companies in the real estate development, life insurance, investments, and employee leasing sectors. Leon had a deep and abiding love for the Lord, his family and his friends. He was a life-long avid reader and had a great love for animals. He was very passionate about numerous charities, of which Wounded Warriors and St. Jude Children’s Hospital were particularly near and dear to his heart.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Roscoe Gorman and Virginia McKenzie Gorman, and his wife, Teddye Travis Gorman. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Jack Shelton; three children, Kent Gorman (Renee), Lynn Smith (Bob), and Randy Gorman (Cleo Kathryn); six grandchildren, Michelle Gorman (Oscar), Charlie Smith (Emily), Lauren Register (Will), Will Gorman (Mary Clyde), Wilson Smith, and Ellie Gorman; and six great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank everyone at Fair Haven senior living community for taking such excellent care of Leon. Special appreciation goes to caregivers Page Hawkins, Latisha Anderson, Heather Reed and Eric Ramsey who cared for him every day with sincere kindness, love, and compassion.
A private family memorial service was held at Cathedral Church of the Advent on Monday, December 1, 2025.
Services were under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (205.879.3401) in Homewood.
