
Leonard Clifton "Link" Skelton, age 92, of Birmingham died on March 19, 2010. Mr. Skelton was born in Tuscaloosa County, adopted by his paternal aunt, Aquilla Skelton Lawless and Joseph P. Lawless. He graduated from Brookwood High School and the University of Alabama. A veteran of World War II, he retired from AmSouth Bank. He was active in the U.S.O and the Leukemia Society and served as Past President of The Mountain Brook Exchange Club. Mr. Skelton was a member of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club of Birmingham and the Country Club of Birmingham. He was also a member of Independent Presbyterian Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Elder and Foundation Director. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Margaret Bryars "Peggy" and son in law, Wayne Bryars. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nelle Gaston Skelton; son, Leonard Skelton, Jr. "Len" (Ann) of Vestavia Hills; Daughter, Elizabeth Savely "Betsy" (Jimmy) of Zionville, NC; grandchildren, Patricia Skelton, John Andrew Skelton, Matthew Skelton, Clay Savely, Emma Savely; step-grandchildren, Grant Stokes (Kaleigh), Jacqueline Stokes Maddox (Wes), Lance Bryars (Falon) and sister in law, Joyce Heslip. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 22, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Independent Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church's parlor. in lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Independent Presbyterian Church (Children's Fresh Air Farm, Kirkwood Music Department) or the charity of your choice.
