Leonard H. White Jr.

Age 92, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away peacefully Friday, June 15, 2012. He was preceded in death by his mother, Stella Arnold White, his father, Leonard White, Sr., his wife, Margery B. White, his son, Leonard H. White, III, and his unnamed infant son.

Mr. White was born on June 7, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Ramsay High School. After high school, he attended and graduated from three different universities: Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) with a degree in mechanical engineering, The University of Michigan with an advanced degree in naval architecture, and The University of Arizona with a focus on advanced naval studies. He served in the United States navy during WWII, and was stationed on the Aleutian Islands as well as other areas. After the war, he and his brothers spent many years developing and working at Birmingham Fabricating Company, Birmingham Bolt Company, White Fab, Inc., and other affiliated family companies.

Mr. White was an active member of the Birmingham community. He was one of the founding members of St. Mark United Methodist Church. He also helped with the creation of the athletic facilities at Berry High School in the 1960's.

Mr. White is survived be his four children, Monroe Fields, Linda Meyer, Barbara Mulle, and Nancy Edwards; his six grandchildren, Huntley Fields, Jaelyn Meyer, Tim Strickland, Nicole Webb, Kelly Woosley, and Mitch Edwards; and his six great grandchildren, Brayden Haskell, Kaemon and Nolan Strickland, Sam and Thomas Webb, and Sawyer Woosley.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 18, 2012 at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. Visitation will be there from 10:00 – 11:00, immediately followed by the service. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Charles Woolsey, Jr. will be officiating.

The family will deeply miss their Dad/Grandad's kind heart, unselfish giving, and abounding love. They appreciate the dedication of Mr. White's caregivers, Gail, Edwin, and Donna. The family also asks that any memorial gifts be sent to your charity of choice.
