

Lila Margaret Williams Barakat, 75, of Marbury, Alabama passed away on Saturday August 27, 2016, surrounded by many family members expressing their love for her. Born on September 13, 1940 in Marbury, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Barney Morgan Williams and the late Lillian Adel Hines Williams; sister to the late Goldie Angella Williams and Barney Alton Williams.
She was survived by her husband of 38 years, Sayel Barakat; one son Cameron Sayel Barakat and wife Misty of Birmingham, Alabama; one grandchild, Taylor Ilene Barakat, 15. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and God-children survived their beloved aunt Lila.
Lila Barakat was a graduate of the University of Alabama, in 1972 as a CRNA, from the nurse anesthesia program. Lila began her career at the Sylacauga School of Nursing at the age of 18. She continued on to work at UAB hospital as a nursing supervisor, and then she went on to CRNA school. Lila was privileged to be able to work the 1964 New York World’s Fair, where she met many dignitaries, including the Pope. Lila always had the vision to help her family and friends, no matter what was needed to be done. Her love and generosity will continue to shine through those whom survived her. She instilled the importance of education and taking pride in one’s work to all the children in the family, beginning at a young age. Lila was a strong role model to women, taught others to be self-supportive, and go beyond what anyone would expect them to accomplish.
Visitation will be at Ridout’s Valley Chapel, Homewood, AL on Wednesday August 31, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A second visitation will be at Ridout’s Prattville Chapel, Prattville, AL on Friday September 2, 2016 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Burial services will be held immediately after the funeral service, at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
