After graduating from Barbour County High School, she went to work at U.S. Steel Corporation, where she met her husband Roy Carl Brunson, Sr. They were married on July 7, 1946 and lived happily together until his death in 1970. She then worked at the Birmingham Chapter of the American Red Cross as a corporate recruiter until her retirement.
Lillian lived in Homewood in the same home since 1950 until her death. She became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in 1951, and served her church faithfully as a member of the Administrative Board, Board of Trustees, and Finance Committees. She also served for 20 years in the Children’s Division, eventually becoming the Superintendent over the Kindergarten. Lillian used her unique talent and passion for arranging flowers to serve on the church Flower Committee. For many years, she would disassemble the sanctuary flowers every week and take them to various nursing homes for the residents to enjoy. Her hobby was working to beautify her yard, and was a member of the Edgewood Garden Club for many years.
Lillian was a determined, strong willed woman, who loved the Lord, deeply loved her church, and studied her Bible every day. She also loved her Auburn Tigers and never failed to watch the games on television. She would always critique the games with her son the next week to determine what went right or wrong.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl, her three sisters, Janie Mae Wallace, of Brundidge, Ala., Nell Rose Carpenter of Florence, Ala., Joyce B. Weir, of Birmingham, Ala., and one brother, Robert E. Brown of Brooklyn, NY. She is survived by her children, Tempie Joyce Brunson and Carl Brunson, Jr. (Susan). She is also survived by her three grandsons, Dr. Brian A. Brunson (Joy), Clayton R. Brunson (Jennifer), and Taylor Lupo (Laura). She was blessed with seven great grandchildren, Abby Grace Brunson, Caleb Brunson, Cole Brunson, Caden Brunson, Mason Brunson , Maddox Brunson, and Lillian (Lilly) Lupo (her namesake). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
