
HANNON, HELEN LINDER (DUCKY) BOUTWELL Helen Linder (Ducky) Boutwell Hannon went to be with her Savior on November 17, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A native of Birmingham, Ducky was born on August 25, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Helen Balfour Drake and the Honorable Albert Burton Boutwell, first Mayor of Birmingham. Ducky attended Shades Valley High School and was a member of the first graduating class that attended the school all four years. Following graduation, she attended the University of Alabama where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and was later presented at the Redstone Ball in Birmingham. Blessed with a vivacious personality, she enjoyed life and garnered scores of friends during her entire lifetime. Ducky loved to travel and see the world. Becoming a flight attendant with Delta Airlines in Atlanta wonderfully combined her passion for travel and new adventures. During her tenure with Delta, she met and married Paul Bowen Hannon from Denver, Colorado. After several enjoyable years in Los Angeles, CA, they moved to Paris, France. Ducky was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain. She often hosted formal dinners for hundreds of people and enjoyed planning and preparing for them. She was truly a gracious hostess. Some of her passions included cooking, music, seventies fashion, gothic cathedrals and Renaissance chateaus and art de vivre. In 1983, she returned to Mountain Brook, AL. She was welcomed by her mother and a host of friends and family. Ducky was a member of Highlands United Methodist Church for many years where she was active in UMW. During the last years of her life, she attended St. Peter's Anglican Church where she was involved in Bible study and other activities. Survivors include her daughter, Helen Christine Hannon Bargman (Christopher) and son, Sean Bowen Hannon (Lori) both of Birmingham. Seven grandchildren include; Elizabeth Marie Bargman, Kelsi Christine Bargman, Kaysi Heleen Bargman, Joshua Christopher Bargman, Sydney Blair Hannon, Brynn Ainsley Hannon and Blayne Bowen Hannon. She is also survived by two brothers: Albert Burton Boutwell, Jr. (Lynn) of Panama City, FL, and Charles Drake Boutwell (Candace) of Northbrook, IL. Also surviving are a niece, Jacquelyn Ashley Boutwell, of Austin, TX ,and 2 nephews, Douglas Drake Boutwell and David William Boutwell of Chicago, IL, and many beloved cousins and numerous special friends. There will be a memorial celebration of life on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at 4:30 PM at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 3207 Montevallo Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35223. A reception to greet the family will be held at the church immediately following the service. Officiating will be the Rev. Victor L. Oliver. Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Benevolence Fund of St. Peter's Anglican Church.
