Mrs. Daniel., 84, passed away peacefully in Birmingham. Born June 25,1939 in Wadley, Alabama, Lucy Jane was a proud Samford University Alumna and member of the 1st Freshman Class on its current campus. She cheered for the Bulldogs, the Crimson Tide, and any team that included her grandchildren. She was the consummate hostess, as well as a gifted seamstress and gardener. A 4th grade teacher in her early career, Lucy eventually found her true passion: Residential Real Estate, serving her clients enthusiastically for 40 years.
She volunteered countless hours at the church she loved as Wedding Coordinator, GA Director, and Preschool Sunday School teacher. Lucy was funny, loyal, creative, smart, playful, and solidly in charge……keeping everyone in line, especially her children, with The Look. (IYKYK). She adored a good book, any day at the beach, a competitive game of Rummikub or dominos, and a roaring fire, even if it meant running the AC to offset the heat. Most importantly, Lucy Jane understood the value of presence---she showed up whenever and wherever she was needed.
She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Lucy Jane is survived by her son Joe (Kathy) Daniel, Jr.; her daughter, Melissa Daniel (Darin Crabb); her brothers, Jimmy (Camilla) Dunn; Johnny (Mary) Dunn; and four grandchildren, Rutland Patterson; Kathleen, Sarah and JC Daniel, III. She was predeceased by her parents, Bessie Ingram Floyd Dunn and James Brashare Dunn. Visitation is 4-6 pm Tuesday, August 29th at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church with a private burial on August 30th in Roanoke, AL. Memorial donations may be made to Dawson’s Preschool Ministry, Samford University, the Alzheimer’s Association, or any university conducting dementia research.
