

Marcus McDonald Russell passed away peacefully on April 16th, 2023. He was born in Birmingham, AL at St. Vincent's hospital, on December 6th, 1962. Marc was the youngest of four children born to Mary Naughton Russell and Samuel Ewart Russell Jr., now both deceased. He attended school at Cahaba Heights Elementary, Gresham Junior High and Shades Valley High School. Marc went on to get a Bachelor of Arts degree at UAB and an Associate's degree in Construction at Bessemer Tech. After suffering a serious leg injury on a construction site, he spent many years working in retail sales in and around Birmingham.
Marc loved all animals and had a special affinity with dogs of all sizes. He was a talented tennis player and as a young boy he was selected to be a Ball Boy for the Birmingham Invitational Tennis Tournament. He had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off of his back. Although Marc was raised in the Catholic Church, he was interested in all religions and attended services at many different churches.
Marc is survived by his siblings: Katherine R Clopton (widow of Wallace R. Clopton), Brandon E. Russell and his wife Nancy Shealy and Marley R. McWilliams and her husband Michael McWilliams; his uncle Albert Naughton and aunt Dorothy Naughton. He loved being Uncle Marc to Katie McWilliams Brannan (Adam), Will McWilliams and Scott Russell and great uncle to Connor and Mason Brannan.
Marc's funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Monday, April 24th at 11:00 with a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetary at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Marc's favorite charity, the Birmingham Humane Society.
