

member of the Village Painters, Petey was a prolific artist in a variety of media
including watercolor, pastel, acrylic and mixed media. She was past president of the
Alabama Watercolor Society, a member of the Birmingham Art Association and the
Collectors Circle for Contemporary Art of the Birmingham Museum of Art She was
also a member of Canterbury United Methodist Church, where she was an active
member for over seventy-five years. While painting was her solace and life's
ambition, her family was always her first priority. She was preceded in death by her
husband of fifty-seven years, Richard Turner Scruggs and three brothers, Craig
Bade, Fritz Bade, Jr., and John Bade; survived by four children, Marilyn Scruggs
Tucker (Charles), Sarah Scruggs Estes (Jarrell), Richard Turner Scruggs, Jr.
(Deborah), John Hubert Scruggs; nine grandchildren, Richard Tucker (Kim), Craig
Tucker (Lori), Katherine Estes Billmeier, Marilyn Beard (Todd), Frances Lindsey
(Cooper), Sarah Olson (Gregg), Margaret Scruggs, Elizabeth Scruggs, Bade Scruggs
and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Canterbury United
Methodist Church, May 11,11:00 am., followed by private internment The family
will receive guests in the church parlor preceding the funeral fi-om 9:30—11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Canterbury United
Methodist Church or the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama.
