

Marion Woolfolk Stubbins, 94, of Birmingham, Alabama, died peacefully at home on July 27,2023. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary Byron Frazier Woolfolk and Charles Marion Woolfolk, her husband Dr. Samuel Gaines Stubbins, her brother John Byron Woolfolk and her son-in-law William Barber Bancroft.
She is survived by her brother Charles Marion Woolfolk, Jr (Nancy) of Altoona, Florida, her daughters, Fletcher Stubbins Bancroft of Asheville NC, and Terrell Stubbins Halcomb (Mac) of Birmingham, her grandchildren, Webb Bancroft of Asheville, NC, Lucy Halcomb (Sergey Fogelson) of Durham NC., Glenn Halcomb (Josh Criscoe) of Washington DC, and Will Halcomb of Brooklyn, NY and her great-grandson Asher Fogelson of Durham, NC.
Marion was born in Charlotte, North Carolina but moved to her parents’ hometown of Birmingham in 1931. She was a graduate of Ramsay High School. She spent a year in Washington State with family before returning to Birmingham. Marion and her husband were married in 1954. She was an interior designer working with many local designers until she helped open and manage the decorative fabric store, Calico Corners here in Birmingham in 1979. She retired in 1997. She was also a member of the Junior League of Birmingham and the Colonial Dames. After retirement Marion was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club. She was also an excellent bridge player and was passionate about PGA golf. She and her friends enjoyed local theater and meeting for dinner at Highlands Bar and Grill. But most, importantly she was a devoted follower of Christ.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mariantha Grammas of UAB House Calls for her excellent care over the years. We also wish to thank Rena Bell, Anne Ware, Sheila Hardy, Theresa Miles, Keetra Anderson, Shalimar Cruz, and Alandra Leonard for their care. A visitation for Marion will be held Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209.
