Martha Edd Adair, age 93, passed away on October 19, 2020 at her home in Birmingham. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday November 10th at 11:00 at Faith Presbyterian Church on Valleydale Road in Birmingham.
Mrs. Adair is preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Charles Watkins Adair, and is survived by three children Charles Edward Adair, Marcia Adair Strickland and William Gregg Adair, 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Born in 1927 in Bessemer, Al to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Luther (Gertrude) Chisenhall, she will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She attended school in Bessemer and after graduation, The University of Alabama. During her middle school days she met her lifelong friends “The Girls” and continued to meet with them once a month for over seventy years. Her high school years were a happy time as well. She met Charles her freshman year when he was a senior, and they continued to date while he was fighting in WWII. When he returned home and both were at the University, things got serious and they married in 1947. Decades of good southern cooking, trips to the beach, needle-pointing, and laughter at every joke followed. Many special events took place and memories were made at the house Martha Edd and Charles bought on the Black Warrior River in 1972, most recently a family Thanksgiving where she enjoyed celebrating with over thirty family members.
In addition to her life’s work of raising her children and loving her family, she was a grateful and joyful member Al-Anon for over 40 years where she spent countless hours mentoring women, which highlighted her caring and patient spirit. Her love of Jesus Christ and her family defined her blessed and long life.
Special thanks to caregivers Keyon Wood, Valerie Morris, Veronica Nash, Emma Biltmore and Oasis Hospice.
