On February 12, 2018, Mary Allums died peacefully with loved ones surrounding her at Grandview Medical Center. Born and raised in Oneonta, Alabama. Attended Blount County High School. Then received her business degree for the Birmingham School of Business. She was married to Issac (Ike) M Allums and mother to William ( Billy) Allums of Helena. Employee of Buffalo Rock Company for 38 yrs. She retired at age 78. However, she would still show up after retirement on a regular basis to work asking if she could help with anything. She considered the company part of her family. An article was written about her in the Buffalo Rock Company newsletter. In that article, she was described as the “Angel of Buffalo Rock”. Comments on the article described how she was always willing to help in any area. She was the Executive Administrator to the President of Buffalo Rock. Mary was mostly at work but she did love to play. If there was a cruise ship leaving, she’d usually be on it. She loved to travel. In 1992, her play time took a turn for the best. Her granddaughter was born. She loved and adorded that little Nicole. Family was so important to her. Her husband, Issac, died suddenly when their son , Billy, was only 5 yrs old. Her number one goal was to always be there for him. To raise him with good values, the love of the Lord and be a faithful servant. Billy excelled more than her expectations. As Mary was a resident at The Oaks in Hoover, not a week would go by without him visiting with his mom. Taking her out to dinner, to his home, or just riding around town. As her health started to dwindle, she always loved to see Billy. He loved her so much. She will be greatly missed. But forever Billy, Nicole, family and friends will remember her joyful spirit, kind heart , and since of humor. Lots of great memories. The family knows that she is in Heaven. She accepted Christ at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. Baptized by Rev. Neil Glausier who would eventually become Billy’s father in law. So if you think you hear thunder and the sun is shining, it’s not thunder. It’s just Mary telling stories and jokes in Heaven making everyone laugh. We know she is with Our Savior, her true love Ike and family. She has no more pain and suffering. She is walking on the Streets of Gold. She never remarried. Giving all her devotion to her son preparing him for life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Isaac ( Ike) Allums, father, John Pryor Brittain, mother, Vivian Allums, sister, Virginia Thompson and brother Paul Brittain. Survived by sister Nancy Jernigan (Carl), Billy Allums ( Ruth Anne), granddaughter Nicole Allums Snowden (Jesse) and nieces Ann Jernigan Jolliet and Karen Jernigan Wooten and nephew John Thompson.
Services will be at Valley Chapel in Homewood on February 15, 2018. 10 am visitation and 11 am service. The family will have a private graveside service in Oneonta.
The family would like to thank everyone for all the prayers and love they have received during this difficult time. Romans 8:28 Psalm 27
